Ribble 531 Competition Raw Steel

Have been finishing my Holdsworth Mistral ready for the winter so I tried the rear wheel with a 28mm tyre to check out the clearance on the Ribble. With the dropout adjuster in its original position there was clearance on the chain stays though winding them fully back gave extra room. In it's current form the Raw Steel Ribble weighs in at 8.5kg...its really great to have such a light fast agile frame that will take bigger tyres, mudguards and a rack and is truly adaptable... :) rps20201123_075149_312.jpg rps20201123_075209_476.jpg rps20201123_075230_266.jpg rps20201123_075253_253.jpg

Only an opinion .... but I prefer the more svelte look of the 'new' wheels. I look forward to seeing how the mudguards work out.

I'm running with the new wheels.. just testing the 28mm tyres to see what the clearance was like.
The Royce hubs are starting to bed in and freehub loosening up with use. These are some of the smoothest and long lasting hubs available and 'Made in England' but expensive at around £500 a pair. Front hub is a Royce Ultralight with titanium axle and weighs 104g , rear a Royce Venus with stronger stainless steel axle and weighs 340g...both 24 hole. Rims are DT Swiss RR585 with 30mm semi-aero profile..a tad on the heavy side but bombproof. Spokes are Sapim stainless double butted and J&L titanium skewerage. 20201015_101002.jpg 20201012_165050.jpg

Yesterday's dump find, a pair of Dura-Ace climbing wheels for a tenner. Weighing in at approximately 1300g the pair i may be able to get the Raw Ribble weight down to near 7.5kg with these bad boyz. 20210412_125001.jpg 20210412_125020.jpg

Had a look at the Dura Ace 7700 dual pivot brake calipers but quite heavy at about 340g so decided to go for something lighter and modern but retaining that classic single pivot look. After a bit of searching on eBay a set of barely used Planet X Ultralight CNC were snapped up. The calipers have an ingenious lever cam that gives decent power and linear brake response while keeping the overall lever arm length and protrusion to a minimum. The cam divides the extra leverage evenly between the two calliper halves by being attached to the rear half at its fulcrum while simultaneously leveraging the forward half of the brake via a stainless steel roller... Nifty. The titanium hardware keeps the weight down to just 230g the pair with pads and Jagwire braided cables connect the TRP drilled levers...👍

Cool machine . I'd have put black cables on and I'd have been wrong .
Is there a significant difference between 531c and 531db ?

What's the story with the cable ferrules? One of the photos show the rear ferrule missing then another photo it has been fitted while the front cable ferrule has dissappeared and then reappear later. The mind boggles. I'm having trouble keeping track of your brake ferrules. Is Tommy Cooper involved in this build?
