1962 Viking Conquest

Heavy

Retro Guru
I picked this up yesterday because I liked the wrecked paintwork, On picking it up I discovered it includes hand painted 'improvements in a number of areas.

It's only my second ever road bike, with the first being modern, so my knowledge on these things is close to none.

My initial plan is to get it running and do something with the paintwork. That something could be to clean & wax it, or even do a bit of further distressing in the repainted areas.

I'm really interested in people's thoughts.

If you like the paintwork as is just get a couple coats of lacquer done.

Re:

Suffering a distinct lack of confidence on this today, both on the extreme patina idea and sizing.

I'm measuring it up against my Spa Audax and finding TT 2cm lower but more significantly the top of HT is about 4 cm lower, and with the Spa having plenty of steerer and 100mm stem, this feels significant. Hmmm.

Looks about 22", what's the length between the centre of the bottom bracket and the top of the seat lug?

In old money that would be for somebody 5-7 to 5-10 ish sort of height. Feet and inches lol

Re:

I think so.

The modern bike fits lovely though - I guess it's just changes in geometry & stem / steerer etc.
