Sunn Xircuit 1997/8 rebuild **updated 080520**

Re:

I’d agree something trick like those would look great however at weekend I managed to source a set of 100mm bombers z3 flylights. It has longer steerer too so should be able to set it up nice however I’m still in debate over rigid or not.

I’ll fit the forks and see how it rides, feels and looks (in that order) and go from there :D

Hi Prezza, finally found you on here, Sunn is looking mint mate, did you fit the bombers? Started looking at them for my Zaskar build wondered how they performed?

Re:

Welcome to the site Nick,

No... ain’t got round to fitting then yet but hopefully should find the time over the winter. I’ll post up some pics when done...

Get your Zaskar on here as a build thread and I’m sure other members too will help too with your build spec debate... :?:

Re:

Ok...

Quick update...

Marzocchi Bomber’s fully stripped, repainted, rebuilt and treat to new and better than standard Enduro seal kit and decals by Gil M.

Looking like new and ready to fit to the Sunn...

Pic to follow this weekend when I get chance to fit.

Ps... nitromorse paint stripper worked a treat...

Etched primer then gloss black used.

The polished alloy parts were first rubbed back with 1800 grit wet and dry then wire Wooled then polished with T cut on a drill mounted polishing mop (mop kits for drills around £7 off eBay for a 16 piece kit!!! Brill investment!)

Re: Sunn Xircuit 1998 rebuild - updated 081119

nice restofation of the fork, but why to keep old steel bolts? go for Ti versions and move the restoration on another level :)

Re:

Good point well presented!

I do intend to change the steel bolts if I keep the fork on the bike.

Fork fitted...

Pics to follow later but not sure already whether to roll with it or stick to rigid... hmmmm.

I’ll post done pics and have a think :?:

Re: Sunn Xircuit 1998 rebuild - updated 081119

what I see so far, I would recommend susp fork, Marzocchi resto looks great and it will fit nicely the bike, I vote for susp fork, however, pictures will show more

Re:

Here’s a few quick pics with forks fitted.

Now weighing in at 10.7kg with pedals
(Was 10.3 with rigid forks and no pedals).

Quite happy with that weight.

Geometry feels much more modern with these on and more comfy ride especially with shorter stem.

The forks do squelch a bit but I guess this is normal for open bath type forks of the era. Forks are very smooth and plush.

Might stick some crossrides on it at some point and maybe fit different seatpost, seatpost clamp and anodised bolts for fork brace. Apart from that I’m well pleased with it.

Thoughts?
