Well it hadn’t got any better for being stored since December



In fact something was living in the front mech.

Shims make me nervous so new post, maguras (Julie) swapped for xt v, lots of tlc and here we are.



Cable runs and chain need doing then boing boing time.

I want to change the front shock. I removed caps, nuts from lower and Allen bolts from top fixing. Then I gave up. Anybody know what’s next? Presumably while loaded it’s hard to go further?

Yes I think an air shock is the way to go. Set to 75% of your body weight in psi the anti bob works amazingly. You need to find a shock without any hardware sticking out, like valves and knobs. I bought a DNM which was cheap and fitted the rear but couldn't be squeezed into the space as a front shock. XFusion or Fox as originally fitted to JWs and PRSTs both perform very well, though the Xfusion is a bit noisier.
 
I've taken them off many times and don't remember anything tricky about them. I'm waiting for delivery of a Proflex Attack LE today :D so will get one of mine out and fiddle to see if there's anything to report.
 
I've PMd'd you. For anyone else who wants to do this they rely on a rod of around 8mm which looks like stainless and acts as a bearing surface. The nuts at the bottom and socket headed screws at the top mount just stop these from moving sideways and falling out, which I suppose is why the socket heads are tiny things. There's plenty of good grease in my mounts to help preserve them.

Went for a little spin. Bobbing along. upped the rear PSI much bettererer. Will try a little more as still much bob.Front needs winding off as it tops out after every bump with an unpleasant smack. Spring says 400-750 so no wonder as the adjuster/preload is wound down fully.

other than that the size is fine. and it's weird enough to make me happy.

I have an air shock for the front but will persevere with the spring until I know how to press out the shock pins correctly.
