Had this hanging up in the cave for yonks:

Needs a repaint - you can make out great patches that have flaked off under the cling film and Nitromors.

Managed to save the impossible-to-find foil decals but will need new stickers for top tube, down tube and chain stays.

Thinking black paint with black components, but may go with a USA-theme with silver, red & blue ano.
Most importantly, no cracks or dents that seem to plague these frames.

Re:

Paintless and some lovely features in the metal. Nice CNC chainstay yolk and beautiful welds:

1-piece bent and welded seat stays:

That all-important crack-free headtube:

4-slot seat tube:

You will observe it has a canti-stop on the seatstay bridge. Given that V-brakes came out in ‘96, I’m surprised Answer Products we’re still catering for the old school.

Are you sure about '97? Looks like mine and thats from '94.
Information under the BB should give you the answer.

Yep! Oct ‘97. Even has the 1 1/4” head tube. So no differences from the earlier models then? That would explain why they didn’t switch to a V-brake design. Obviously couldn’t be arsed to change anything (other than a bit of paint and a slight change of graphics).

I see.
The yolk is the same, but the bridge is slightly different to mine. Maybe they the are going back "to the roots". They had other designed yolk over the years. Cool that this one hasn't been cracked! Carefully mounting the headset. Turn something from the outer diameter down. If possible fitting it with not so much pressure for the taper wall. Or clue it. Keeps you crack-free. ;)

Re:

Thanks for the advise! I must say, getting the old headset out was a stressful operation. I was expecting the head tube to crack at any moment!

Very nice! Usually i like color anodised CNC porn, but with this one i almost think it would be better to go black on black, since most of Manitou builds you see around are polished with turquoise or red bits.. It could be fresh to see batman manitou
