Yo Eddy brake bosses - WTF?

H

Retro Guru
Afternoon peeps. Currently building up my 1997 Yo Eddy and unusual canti braze on (namely they don’t have the three holes for the V rake) have stopped me mounting some XTR M950 V brakes. Please see pic below. I know I can purchase some 3 hole plates that might slide down over the brake stud (with a little file work to make them fit) but what brakes might suit this style of canti braze on? Paul’s look favourite, yet the lips to the north and south of the braze on might seem to rule this out. All/any help gratefully received. Peace and love, H.

Dia Compe dont use the holes, my Controltech v brakes dont either. There are a few with self tension springs that dont rely on the holes for spring tension.

Re:

Dia-Compe? They don't use a hole in the boss for the spring, just have spanner flats on the rear to adjust tension.

Looking at the 2 tabs where the bosses go in, I’d say you’re missing a separate piece that would have the holes, or maybe one hole. I have seen separates in the past on other frames.

As mentioned though, not all brakes use them, I can vouch for dia-compe 987’s don’t need them.

Re:

Looks like the tab with the hole for spring is missing. It would be fitted before screwing in the brake boss.

Re:

I had some early Avid V-brakes that didn't use the holes. There was a square nut behind the lever arm for adjusting the spring tension.

Re:

Paragon machine works sell the plates for about $0.97, post is a pain but they have the same style....

I had the plates made in stainless way before Paragon ...

But they have the platform to sell them ...
