My mum had an Escort Cab Ghia when I was 17.

Managed to borrow it a coulpe of times and the looks you get as a 17 yo in a Escort cab at the time were pretty funny :)

Not that quick though, 10.6 0-60, the Ghias were carbs aswell, the XR3 were injection. They were german made, so rust was not much of an issue.
They twist and scuttle really badly aswell. Best you don't try and corned too fast.

The only Escort I would buy is a Mk3 RS Turbo in white. Lovely cars, and before they lost the plot with the superdull Mk4.

For £1k, pretty sure you will make zero cash on this.

oh, I never liked the CVH engine either. Strange power delivery and a bit dull to me.
Mine was never the same after the timing belt snapped too
Not sure piston/valve contact is a good idea..

Cabriolets were a good pulling tool as a 17-18 year old though

I had an Astra, Pug 205 CTi and Rover 216 GTi BITD, and they all worked ;)

Nah, buy a mint MkII and then cut it up as a donor car for a nice kit. Watch the Ford loonies cry.
