For sale, this lovely ‘cadbury’ purple and white, lug lined KOM, 531 f&f from ‘91 (guess based on frame number and original components).

It’s in wonderful condition for age with (admitted big) caveat that the seat clamp cluster has been damaged at some point (maybe over tightened too small seatpost?) and a prior owner has drilled the lug and seatpost to ‘set’ a seatpost height. This suited me pretty well, measurements below, but obviously isn’t perfect! There was no slippage or movement at all, apparently this was an old way of securing used by some, hence the original owner saw it as the obvious solution.

Mercian KOM 700c wheels
Top tube 56.5 cm c-c
Seat tube 55.5 cm c-c
73cm centre bb to top saddle with a Rolls Saddle.

You can actually adjust the seat height a bit by choosing different saddles, ie Brooks are higher from the rails, particularly the sprung one’s. You could also redrill this seatpost or another to set a different height. I have not removed the seatpost.

The seatpost is a Daytona Campag number.

Has rack and mudguard mounts rear, mudguard only front. Horizontal dropouts and adjusters move ok. All threads good. This has never had much use and no hint of rust anywhere including internally.

Really difficult to price with the seatpost issue so I’m going to say £150 plus post, assume no more than £20 boxes up nicely with Parcelforce 48, ppg. Collection from Bournemouth is welcome. I reckon the fork would be worth half that?

Photos to follow.

Re:

Nothing constructive to say except this is stunning, and a bargain. Paint is incredible. FWIW, seatpost cluster clamp is between £20-40 to repair, not including cost of respray, but if you were to do that. Then Mario Vaz would be the man.

Re:

Thanks for the comment. It’s lovely and I’m tempted to store the frame away for a rainy day!
A couple of questions as to whether the post comes out ok. Answer is ‘easy-peasy’ and it’s a 27.2 post.
Put some extra grease on the seatpost as I refitted. Again, no issues. Post is currently only drilled at that one height.

Re: Mercian KOM f&f, canti, ‘91, beautiful but an issue*

So what’s to stop the buyer drilling to their bespoke height?
