Hi, just to let you know, I had a pre war macleans which had the only the number on the steerer, worth a look, be aware the Alphabetic letter will be a smaller font. Thanks Terry
 
Thanks for all the info chaps, when I pick up the frame I will have a better look for the number.
I expect it might be a problem to source suitable components.

This is the serial number for the Macleans, I had posted the wrong picture previously.

Looks like the serial number is 1948. Murray MacLean will be interested in seeing pictures for his records. Contact via the VCC.

The paint on the frame was covered in little pimples which didn’t look right. I carefully removed some with a scalpel and under each one was a little pile of rust powder. Luckily it hadn’t eaten into the steel but it meant a respray was in order. Such a shame, someone had spent money on the respray and I guess the frame wasn’t dried properly before it was sprayed.
