I always use this site www.gojobsite.co.uk and have found them really good for engineering roles.
You can set up daily searches so you get an email listing jobs in your area that fit your search criteria.
They do tend to send some of the jobs out on rotation so you end up seeing some of the same job ads being recycled but its generaly a good site.

One of the things I see a fair amount in my line of work is people leaving with a nice payout, but then they watch that payout dwindle while they faff and find the perfect job. Daytime TV is seductive, but I reckon it is better to get a niff-naff job bringing in some money rather than wait for the perfect job to come along.

Easier said than done, I appreciate, but just amazing how quickly 3 mths salary will go.

When I was in this situation a few years ago, (and after resigning from a job I hated a few years before that), I found Great Answers to Tough Interview Questions to be a really helpful book.

It doesn't just cover the interview stage, but helps with the whole process from deciding what you'd like to do, through cold calling, interview preparation, to negotiating the salary package.

Best £9 I ever spent (except maybe ODI lockon grips).

I don't want to put myself up for public burning by telling everyone that i'm a Recruitment Consultant when I'm so new to the site, but as I might be able to help one or two of the folks who might be looking in the future it is worth a mention. I focus on Project and Programme Management related positions, (outside of the construction industry). Obviously i meet people in your situation every day and it is RUBBISH, but there is hope and despite our reputation, people like me can help! If you do decide to contact a recruitment company, try to use a smaller, specialist firm and also see if any friends or colleagues who work in the same market can recommend someone. got made redundant in 2004 from McLaren - that hurt but got in excess of £8,000 in total so spent the summer bumming around being a teenager again.

Got a 'joe job' fixing mobile phones/ laptops and lo, 18 months later, company had fecked up its big Nokia/ LG/ Samsung contracts, another £2000 and a sideline in rebuilt computers (about £3500) and I was redundant.


I had been driving a limo part time which was quite fun and the owner runs a big taxi firm in Huntingdon - he nagged and nagged so I bought a taxi and 2.5 years later, still here, nose just above the water.

i was a rover employee when that went tits up (worked for a phoenix garage in oxford) and we didnt even get the wages owed let alone a big payout so there is some solace to be had in that (small comfort ill grant you)

That's bad news mate, well it's bad news for everyone who's lost their jobs.

I'm going to be in a similar boat soon. I'm just finishing some post-grad research and have got to find a job in construction :roll: . I can see it being constructing piles of washing powder on the shelves in Tescos at this rate.

Lost my job mid September, Went on the sick in August with Angina and the barstools made me redundant, That'll teach me to be poorly wont it
