RC35 crown depth question

I'm looking round for a set of RC35s but know that when I get a set, the steerer is going to be too short as they always are for my larger frames. (I need it threaded and 180mm to clear the headtube and the headset)

I'm therefore also hunting for a 1" steerer but unsure what length I need as (it being 20 years since I had a set) i can't remember how much extra depth was needed in addition to my 180mm to sit into the crown. An extra 35mm rings a bell buts its 20 years, I don't trust my memory.

Can anyone help with what length of the steerer fits into the crown?

Cheers

Re:

Physical clamping area = 24mm, however you might want to add around 2-3mm at the base for the 'safety' snap ring and also a couple of mm above for the race shim to seat, so I'll allow yourself 30mm MIN. Took some pics for you... ALSO note, they did 3 diffo styles of crown for the RC35 fork and i'm not sure if the other maybe machined differently inside see link...

Fantastic, thank you for going to all that trouble. Ive found a steerer thats 30mm longer than my headtube/headset combo so it should do the job.

Thanks again
