This is my 94' Kona Explosif that I have had resprayed in Pearl White ( needed a respray - a few surface rust issues) Decals by Gil which are ace as ever. Notice the Mint Sauce flowers? These were made by Gil after I drew inspiration from a Jo Burt article in an old Mbuk.

Purists look away now - this bike has been built to use in all weathers for racing etc

I had the same idea with the flowers and added some to my Lava Dome when I built it back up.

The forks are ace. I have had a few fox forks in my time & obv old Judys / mags / bombers.

These forks have been by far the best fork I've ever puchased. Very light, stiff & responsive. Doddle to set up.

They are dialled down to 80mm to suit frame geometry (imho frame sits well)

Looks sweet set at 80mm. My fork history is similar - Quadras, Bombers, Margura, Reba's.

Run Reba's on my caldera at 100mm travel and that too seems fine.

Ace bike though and a rider :cool:

Where did you get it spayed?

does the fork change the handling of the bike ?

I had it sprayed by a friend of a friend from work. Cost £100. This guy’s work is top draw. The frame was dipped (also an acquaintance of my work colleague) Dipping the frame gave it a fantastic base for a really good respray. The external butting on the tubing is much more prominent now.

I went to pick the dipped frame up & was treated to having a peek at some shot blasted Astons & a rather special Ferrari 250 GT built for Leman. Should be worth circa 6 mill when finished. The dipper dude still took an interest in my Explosif & loved the tubing.

Was a cool day :)
 
Hi Magas, I thought it might change things ( ie it might want to lift when climbing) but it hasnt really made much of a difference other than the steering actually feels sharper.


I hope the forks dont look out of place but they really were needed. I did a 10hr race on judy xc's last year - never again!

I had to run a disc up front as Rockshox don't produce the sid race with canti mounts

I like it; and I dont like Kona's that much :oops:

A kind of 'best of both worlds' build :cool:
