Rear mech cage spring

I bought a 'broken' mech recently as I needed the cage for a good mech i had in the spares stash.

It's been a while since I've rebuilt one, and I'm not sure I've done it right.

After the rebuild, the cage is pointing forwards. It has tension and when I push it rearward towards the stop, you can feel the spring do it's job, resisting my efforts.

However, I'm used to the cage sitting against the stop. What have I done wrong? I remember when replacing hanger bolts with srp ones having to faff around, twisting and contorting to wind the spring up before pushing it all into place, but didn't do it this time. Do I need to start again and wind the spring or is it ok as it is?
