1959 Frederick Pratt - Long term Resto

Much obliged for that thanks, I'll pass this onto him with a reference to this post.

It would be a nice result if it were another F.P.

All the best
Shaun

Re:

Hubs have arrived! Look to be all original, apart from the rear track nuts and a missing front Tecalemit oiler- I have some spares on the way... I'll save the cleaning session for the weekend :D

Stripped, cleaned and re-greased. Came up pretty nicely in general, some minor pitting to the barrels... not bad for 60/70yr old hubs eh!

I've managed to source all the bits now, paint will happen over the autumn/winter when the other 2 wheeled project is out the way. For now I'll most likely let the thread rest until more exciting progress is made...

Any updates?

Nothing major other than refining the choice of components a tad... I've got a NOS Campag gran sport seat post going on with a Cyclo saddle support, Accles & Pollock stem and a CLB front brake- currently modin' some magura brake pads to fit. Modern rims = modern pads! Also picked up some earlier 49d cranks, NOS Renold chain & Villiers sprocket.

The still to do jobs are, paint & get the wheels built...

Does the brake actually reach the rim? Some of these old track frames have drilled fork crowns but you can't actually get a brake in there - not unless you can find one with a drop of 25mm.

Re: Another FP

Just thought I would share some photos of my Frederick Pratt (Special)- which I assume is a 1970, going by the frame number.
This was painted ages ago by Mercian. I have all the bits to put it together, but it's taking ages. Building the wheels currently (Mavic CXP30 tubs on a Campagnolo C Record Front Hub, and polished silver modern Campag 10 speed rear). Taking the photos today I realised that this is a nice frame, with the wrap over pencil stays, the ornate lugs, and the lovely rear brake bridge (which I had strengthened). The frame was orange and black, and very rust pitted (very obvious underneath the downtube, as it never had mudguards fitted). I chose Mercian's Orange Pearl for the re-spray. The forks are not original, but I have the originals, which are more curved.

I added the downtube shifter bosses.

I think I am going to have to get a Chrome Campagnolo Headset.

Sorry to the Purists, but it is going to have Campagnolo carbon cranks, and 10 speed gear train with Ergo shifters. There will however be as many shiny parts as possible, as black does not look good on bike parts (IMHO). The frame is light 1700kg, plus 700kg for the forks. I assume it is 531, but as there were never any Reynolds stickers on it, I did not add them.

I do not know who made the frame for the Frederick Pratt shop.

Any information on the type of lugs used and the make of the drop outs, or any other information, will be gratefully received.

Hope you like it, and don't think what I have done is like putting stone cladding on a listed building :)
