I have got a GT '3D' fork which has a dent in the top in the middle of where the stem would clamp onto it. The dent goes in about 1.5mm
There is also some gouging (<0.1mm) all the way around as if someone has tried to fit a stem that was too tight, or instead has tried to remove the old stem after it was dented. Also, the tube section at the top is not smoothly circular.
I was wondering if this is fixable, perhaps by ramming a correctly sized tube inside it (of aluminium and then dissolving it). However I understand that threadless systems are supposed to be precise in how they fit together so the material that has been lost could prove catastrophic.
