1984 Claud Butler Majestic. #058569

Very tidy, I think I might copy you after I’ve got her “catalogue correct” for a photo shoot.

I just prefer hyperglide indexed shifting over anything else. You dont need new mechs either, just anything Shimano and slant parallelogram from about 1986 onward. Polished and it can pass for 1970's kit. Any old front mech and any old chainset too.

A bit like a V8 in a Viva or a V6 Escort

I’m not so up on post 80’s kit, so when I get around to changing up I’ll canvas for advice first before I put my hand in my pocket.

So, if I’m to get her anywhere near the 1984 Catalogue (image below) for a rBotM 80’s theme, I’m going to need;

A pair of silver plastic mudguards listed as Allez! Silvertrim. (never seen a set of these) Maybe a descent pair of 80’s ESGE silvers would make a suitable substitute?

A large frame-fit grey & black pump, I’m guessing a 58cm long one, Cat doesn’t list a brand so I’m guessing a SKS?

A Claud Butler “Cape Wrath” Carrier

A padded black saddle, Selle Italia preferably

A pair Lyotard 460D pedals (got)

Oh, and a fork mounted lamp bracket (got a box of them somewhere)

I have binned so many of those racks over the years!

I've got a gold pearl one that I got as a bare frame and built it up with what was to hand at the time to use as a commuter bike.

Some of my route is through the woods, some is up hill, some is downhill and some is actually flat so it ended up as a sort of cyclocross bike with 35mm knobbly tyres and a nice wide range of 8x3 Campy gears, 32x30 for the up hills and 11x53 for the downs.

Its a very comfy ride even with that cheap crap saddle and does the job I ask of it in all weathers superbly well. One day it will get restored back to as close to original as possible but until I can put something better together it will go mud plugging in all weathers.

Below is after one early, dark and muddy commute this January.

Great stuff Allen, have you booked the frame number & photo in with dwscrimshaw on his Holdsworth page?

And more importantly.. any of the bits left over (rack & mudguards)

ps.. is your garage big enough to warrant a pallet truck? :shock:

No to the numbering, I've got a few to add so I should really.

No to the bits I'm afraid, it came as just a frame with the brakes on

And yes and no to the Garage, its a big double but being the hoarder I am you can't move in there for bikes, frames, bike bits, a buried car I intend to finish restoring when I retire, car panels, oh and a Motorbike I should really do something with and of course tools.

Yes and I think the brochure is pretty accurate, mine comes in at around 11.8kg now so in catalogue trim I expect that's right
