is it just me or is the economy REALLY shafted?

im an estate agent and from what i see its awful.

we've just let go of another member of staff, shes struggling to find work because the agencies dont seem to have a lot.

If the business closes i wont have a clue where to go next, lucky for me i still live with the rents or i'd be up shit street.

As far as I'm concerned it's been F.U.B.A.R.ed all this year. The construction industry and especially the house builders have been in recession all this year at least.

I have lost my job now and have no real prospect of getting anything like it for some time I thinks. Unlike the bunch of muppets we have in 'control' I have at least managed to put a bit aside for that rainy day. The mortgage has gone and I can hopefully last until things start to look up again.

The worst thing has been telling the kids that Christmas has been somewhat cancelled this year!

I've just had my busiest day in 12 months in the shop, turnover is increasing weekly!!! as the financial situation gets worse more and more people trade down to us from Clintons and other up market card shops... we also sell branded toys at less than 1/2 price and cheap versions of name brand perfumes, discount stationary, gift wrap, party-ware, you get the picture. ... online sales are doing well also. Having said that at least one of the major card publishers we bought from has gone bust recently.

I never quite got Card Shops until last week, I would see another one open on the front street ( we have three now out of a total of 35-40 shops in our town) and wondered how they made a living. Last weekend we let the eldest daughter stay up to watch Strictly Watch Totty Dancing and after getting bored of it she found and emptied the contects of a box that my sentimental wife has put old cards in for the last few years- there were fecking hundreds of them!, you could not see the floor by the time she had finished.
Now I have not bought a card in ages but guess they are about £1- 1.50 each on average?? Thats quite a lot of money then. Multiply that by the nation's population and you have a very large amount of money.
For years it has been my dream to open a specialist cheese shop with all my favourite artisan cheeses in stock- I even have a name for it, wait for it......Cheeses of Nazereth....but now I think a Card shop might be the way to making my fortune. The smell would be better too!

You could open it next door to my adventure equipment emporium "Summit for the Weekend"

(I do have a sensible reply to this thread forming in my head as well)
