Team Raleigh Dyna-Tech ex Adrian Timmis, thanks for helping.

My best mate ( who worked with the Raleigh team back in the day) says that they used SunTour XC Pro at one time and that the Syncros stem and Kalloy seat pin might well be OK. They also used the Rex Trimble forks for a while. He has a Dave Baker style bike in his shed and is going to have a look at what is fitted to it and get back to me.

1) A lot of the Raleigh team bikes of the time used Hope ultralight front hubs so you don't really need to change that.
2) If you want Bonty rims then go to Sjscycles.co.uk, they have blue and red spots in stock.
3) I seem to recall that some of the team used roadie bar tape in place of grips on the bars.
4) Brakes are probably shite because the blocks are glazed or hardened and rims old and worn. But I also remember that Dave Baker used Mafac types at one point
5) The tyres should be Continentals
6) The frame is Metal Matrix rather than Ti, bit like Specialized M2
7) Would have thought that the forks were steel rather than Ali as that's what the Special Products Division at Raleigh specialised in.
8 ) Pedals should be Wellgo if clipless
Thanks Pete some great very helpful stuff there, once i'm more financially solvent after this purchase i'll start buying up the parts needed.

Went out for a proper ride on it today and really enjoyed riding it. Think I might be a convert to the 1.8" tyres, they rode really well and added speed in many areas of my riding as did the bike. So in answer to how does it ride I can be a bit more concise, it rides very light, accelerates very well, climbs better than my alpinestars, corners extremely well and is very nimble especially with the narrow bars. The bike is so lean and rigid it almost feels as though your riding a cross between a mtb as we know it and a cyclocross bike. It really is very different from anything i've ridden before. I'll be happy to loan it for a few miles to those cheeky enough to ask at Cannock this Christmas, i'd be interested to see what some of you lot think of it. The riding position is aggressive but you soon adjust to it.

From a negative point of view the XTR sti units are sticking in position once I shift with the thumb trigger, i'll strip these down and lubricate to see if I can sort it. The brakes are better, I put half an hours effort into them, but they still aren't fantastic (might be me spoilt with discs). The SPD's gave me a false inpression of being engaged a few times, so i'll strip these down and lubricate also. I'm also struggling to adjust the front mech correctly, I lowered it as suggested but it's catching in both the higher and lower cogs of the cassette, which seems very odd, i'm wondering if the chain is too wide?

Rode via my LBS 'ride-on' and popped in for some bits and to get a size on the post. I could read the guys face as he was serving me 'thinking is that what I think it is', eventually he asked brought the guys out the back to have a look. The post is 26.0mm, still not conviced to it's originality though. I've swapped the seat clamp on the top of the post for one I had lying around and this has cured the seat position problem.

Still cannot believe this my bike, i'm in dreamland and maybe for some time.

Thanks Ned that would be a great help.

From trawling retrobike i've found these images from other threads, thank you to those who posted them in the first instance.

Some good clues to the spec on this David Baker photo, the blue front hub is nice but unsure as to manufacturer and also the tyres are the Continentals (bolx I had an NOS one just a few months back). Seems to be running one STI and one thumbshifter also. Any idea what the pedals and headset are that Baker is running?

And secondly here is a picture of Team Raleigh with what I assume are the Rex Trimble forks fitted. Again it is fitted with Continental tyres and the front hub looks blue.

That bike is proper bo, really looking forward to seeing it at Cannock and so glad that you have thought again about the respray

Just a quick one, the Raleigh DynaTech team with Timmis in was 1993. No other year.

'92 it would have been Raleigh Saab and in '94 it would be just Raleigh.

So you'd need to look for '93 video's

Now that is useful info. From what i've been led to believe it was a 1991 or 92 bike. That date fits better with me I though it was more 92/93. Thanks very much FluffyChicken a true scholar.

Got a reply from Adrian Timmis reference the bike and my Mountain Mayhem offer:

"Hi Mark, Congrats, did think about buying it back my self!!! I think I have some team cards somewhere, will lookout for you, it looks almost original, may be saddle different, but will look for some races photos and see. I still have some brand new original XTR spares, shifters, fr mechs, cassettes and cantis if you need anything. Might take offer up for Mountain Mayhem if I'm around, will have to dig out jersey from my collection. Will let you know what I find,Ada"
