Flite colours

true story about flites
a few years ago 15 or so when i first got into this nonesence a bunch of us would meet up at a local garage and go for a thrash in the hills,it was the usual mix you get on these rides pro-elite guys on paces and marins
folk like me on £300 bikes lads on activators an old bloke on a dawes
galaxy and ian
now ian was a runner and fit as **** .he turned up one evening after
hearing about our outings through a mate. he had his dads raliegh pioneer
fitted with a rack, frame bag and those bull horn bars you used to see
about half way through the run he started moaning about his arse being sore it was pointed out that instead of the little running shorts he had on
he needed cycle shorts. these shorts were the skimpy silky ones as worn
by alan partridge on tv("oops the boys are out the barracks again")
further referance was made to his gel saddle.he spent some time looking at saddles on the bikes & reckoned he needed a new saddle.
the following week he turned up again proudly showing off his new
saddle a selle flite trans am.
ian was fit he could march up hills faster than most of us but he had no
technical skill singletrack was that arms locked white nuckle ride style
thing in fact when he fell off (often) he would be still in the same stance
when he stopped moving toe strapped in and gripping the bars.
our route took us down a cliff path zig zagging back and forth as it descended at the bottom there was 2 rocks that you could ride between
or jump over as it spat you out onto the medow at the bottom
must of us were at the bottom lying on the grass waiting for everyone to
regroup before lugging the bikes back up the hill
ian was dead last down and had'nt fallen off yet. in a sort of group telepathic moment we all seemed to sense "he's goin a bit fast"
at which point he sort of did a flying "w" legs in the air, landed and was
sorta ejected out onto the grass with a shreik then skidded the back
round and hi-sided himself onto his face with another shreik
there was much mirth at the sight of this until we noticed he had really
hurt himself. i could see what looked like an apple fall out of his shorts
as he rolled over (one of those mac reds the reddish/purpley ones)
then we realised it was one of his cobblers,i was nearly sick the poor guy
had forced it into the gap it the middle of the saddle (shreik no1)
then pulled it out (shreik no2) as he crashed.
after we managed to get help for him (not easy in those pre-mobile days)
we never saw him again.

the shorts were the problem

I'm still not risking it... I won't be able to look at one of those saddles again, let alone sit on one!

Aaaaanyway, Jez, did you get that orange Flite? I need a new saddle for my P7, & it needs to be orange, but there ain't much out there! I'm sure I had a black one somewhere, but I can't find it, & I wanted to put it on the 856 :(

very boring at chez Radar I'm afraid. Plain black, then black with black kevalr edges and embroidery; and a plain black.

I bought one in 1992ish. The shopkeep at Bicycle Doctor had a great sales pitch "whoa, the box weighs more than the saddle, cool man"
