Engineers?

Hah hah, another here. Studied for 4 years and look where it's got me

Think engineers and cycling go together. Loads of the lads I rode with at Uni and now are Engineers one way or another.
Sadly the flip side is as Gump rightly says Engineering and chicks certainly don't mix well

I started out in sales and eventually ended up in Retail Management. Got p****d off with it though and jacked it in to learn something new.

Now I do a similar thing to Mark_h4dng, programming CNC lathes for small batch or one off parts for aerospace, petrochem etc. I came to engineering very late in life and wish I'd decided to do it sooner, hindsight is great though.

I love it, but we're a very small sub-con shop (10 staff) so I get to do a bit of everything, one day I can be sat at a computer programming a new job, the next I'll be at a manual lathe making up a fixture and the day after that I could be stripping a CNC lathe down for a service.

Another Engineering graduate (Mechanical)... have worked in IT pretty much ever since, and never really had the cheek to call myself an engineer I admit it annoys me to hear mechanics, sparkies, technicians or glorified delivery boys being called engineers...

not an engineer unfortunatly but i am a burnt clay specialist,i do really appreciate high end quility and enginering tho,hopefully itll show when i finish my track car

Old school mechanical craftsman and coded welder for thirty yrs and still getting paid for it. Not much call for us now tha nos. But still hanging on

But on the other hand, some so called engineers come out of university and would not know how to use a spanner.

4 year apprentice tradesman (general fitter), 8 years on the job, got made redundant.

Did a Mech Eng degree with the severance money and I have been a consultant safety engineer on large process plant for the last eight years. Guess that now makes me an engineer

You've obviously never worked in the right engineering fields!
My last role was installing and servicing MRI scanners in large veterinary practices and I never got bored of meeting stable girls wearing johdpurs! ( I even hatched an evil plan with one of my customers where we used to tell the best ones that they had to remove their bras while we scanned their horses or their underwiring would cause image artifacts ).
Now work with nurses everyday!
I can honestly say that I have never got to chat-up so many fit women through just 'doing my job' as I do now
As for not being a 'proper' engineer, I fix equipment that saves peoples lives and sometimes work under enormous pressure to do so, which I feel is more the role of a 'proper engineer' who spends his life in the comfort of a lab....... rant over
