This 'ere bike is what I have built up for my Dad for Christmas, to replace a '91 Marin Eldridge Grade which has seen better days. He'll only be riding it on road but likes mountain bikes, so I figured I could build up something old but in really good condition at a cheapish price, rather than something newer with naff suspension forks and cable discs. It's not totally Old Skool, in that I chose to use V brakes and Aheadset front end for functionality but it's got bits like '91 XT front hub, Mavic 231 rim, DX cranks and front mech XT rear mech etc.
