Been running an XTR 8 speed block on my XMaxs for a while but this weekend decided to slot on a NOS HG70 7 speeder, only to find the cassette body too big/wide for it..

Anyone here running 7 speed on these? I thought they were 7/8sp but maybe they're 8/9sp? Can I use a spacer [hack] to sort the issue?

you'll need a spacer to run a 7 speed block on a 8/9 speed wheel.

Yes I have that very wheel and it needs a spacer. I believe that it came with a crappy plastic one that was soon shredded by the chain. Other than that I put a zillion miles and plenty of BC bashing on it.
It sits in the corner now, still true, waiting for a call up.

Rock n roll, thanks guys.. Does it have to be a Mavic specific spacer? I'm guessing not..

3mm of spacers work fine here.
you can buy the plastic one or take some metal ones out of old cassettes..
just make shure the have space for the screws 7s cassettes usually have (the 3 holes at the plastic thingy)

ride on

i use the plastic spacer out of an old block as forest warriors pic
and fit it at the hub end of the freehub(but i've no doubt someone will
tell you to fit it at the other end) 3mm is the correct size
