nice indeed - shows real attention to detail. I was impressed by the C+ bike mentioned above too, but this is top drawer stuff.
 
is it just to commute ?

Commuting, audax / sportive events, winter riding and the odd bit of towpath / fire-road hacking.

BTW are those Mafac-style Pauls brakes still made?

Yes, in fact they're a fairly recent product. Selling well by all accounts - they seem to be just about the best rim brake you can get, notwithstanding the fact they need custom braze-ons.

Paul do make a central mounted one as well now to fit on standard bike without the braze ons, and they are just as nice ( almost got some the other day but my wallet said no.....)
 
this bike just turned up at my work (along with a nice old flite - thanks simon) and it's even more gorgeous in the metal.
