Nishiki Maniac? Any info?

My experience is quite narrow and limited to my XT-equipped Nishiki Alien and the opinions of the guys at my LBS whenever I needed to replace parts 15 to 20 years ago, and I was given the impression that the XT stuff is a little bit heavier, but a lot stronger and thus longer-lasting. I'm sure it depends on exactly which components, though. Has anyone actually made and recorded any weight comparisons?

Not a complete list, but weight generally seems to get less as you move from Deore -> XT -> XTR: http://weightweenies.starbike.com/listi ... erailleurs. Interestingly, things don't seem to get any lighter as we move from 1990s to 2007/8, some models seem to be gaining weight. :?

Hey xerxes, jaypee, skolioza and incorrigible!
Thanks for reading my thread and the informations about my bike and the components!
I just got the Kool-Stops, new grips (NOS 90s stuff, clear), cables (NOKON/blue anodised) and cable-hangers (purple ACOR triangles) but i will be waiting for new black tioga stem and blue anodised club roost "go fast" riser bars to arrive till i build it up. I´ll post new pictures when i´ve finished the build. It will no longer be original, but it will be a concession towards riding comfort, safety and my personal preferences.
I still appreciate every bit of info and comment on the bike.
Have a nice day!

Hey, guys!
Some pictures which show the changes I recently did on the bike: New saddle (flite), new bars (blue anodized club roost "go fast" riser)/stem (tioga "avenger")/clear grips and changed the brakes to Magura HS33s. I could not arrange with the disappointing brake-performance of the (cheap) canti brakes...
Hope you like it as much as I do
Its my best bike for this season here :xmas-wink:

cheers!

Re:

Looking great! :D

Great shot with the blacksmith sculpture, looks like he's about to take a pedal spanner to it ;-)
