Gripshift is great, especially in winter, I swear by it, used it ever since the mid 1990s except on my Kula, which had the up down clicky clicky shifters.

Wouldn't say it's cool though, same as I wouldn't say it is uncool. :)

gripshift great in winter??
Bad enough in summer, just gripeshift in winter. You cannot grip the things!! Well, only ever tried the first ones out with fat barrels and tape stuff, but they put me off for life

Only thing that stops me getting a Rohloff to play with.

Gripshift great in winter - see my reasons above.

You do get the problem of performance with crudded up cables, however I installed the RAW Powerspring (anyone remember that?! :D ) which solves the problem. Still have the same XT rear mech with powerspring in it 13 years on - use it every day.
