It is listed as Sports lug model.
What model is it?
Frame material it says 531 would that be plain or DB?
How about the rear drop outs?
And what are those strange oblong eyelets
Thanks

Re:

Mudguard eyes for Bluemels quick release mudguards, not often used after early 1950s.

If butted 531 it will take 27.2mm seat pillar.

A rare one on here, a genuine Carlton hand built frame, typical general purpose club racer frame from perhaps 1950 ish, long before Raleigh.

Re:

Here's a 1948 catalogue picture of a Carlton 'S' sports. Saying they used Truwel tubing and Chater Lea ends.

Thanks Coupes I reckon you've solved the riddle!
Beautiful frame colour and love the look in the catalogue too.

This is being sold for £200 from universal cycle centre .

Thanks again everyone
And quite right spokesmann!

Re:

It looks to me more like a 1951 mid range frame, definitely later than 1948.
At that time Carlton were a premium brand bike, considered well above Dawes and Sun/Parkes.

Re:

Here's the 51 531 Sports. Difficult to see details but no rear reflector braze-on. Flyer, massed start have similar braze-ons 48-51. Looks like a chain hanger on the right rear seat stay. Not much to go on with universal's site. Similar looking seat tube transfer on the 48 catalogue but not exact. Could well be Reynolds tubing.

Re:

Universal also have another (sold) one which is the same colour but slight different details - this particular one is labelled as a Flyer
