All components on the Rock Rider appear to be original and as you can see the bike has had some serious abuse by it's previous owner but i will br getting it working again this week hopefully and parts will be a mix of old and new lol :p .

Rear wheel and front have serious wear on the rims with both being buckled but the rear is worse off with a bad split and the rear mech and pedals are trashed along with the gear leavers and tyres are scrap to so you get a general idea of whats to be replaced so far and although the frame could do with a new coat of paint that's on hold possibly till next year :| ..

Re:

Update .

Well this is taking a little longer than planned but so far i've got wheels and tyres sorted and shimano seven speed hyper glide cassette with uniglide chain and flat bars plus Specialised ahead stem fitted and some caged pedals off my previous mtb and the honga brake levers off the other bike too as the original ones on the rockrider were well buggered as was the replacable rear mech hanger which has been replaced with an after market one along with a newish long caged tourney rear mech and as for the shifters well i've got a seven speed Acera sL rapid fire shifter and the sram triple chain wheel will be being changed for a single at some point but the front shifter and mech have been binned as i'm just running a seven speed set up .

I will get a proper parts list up when i've got the bike up n running along with some fresh pics lol ;) ..

Re:

Well the bike is now up and running although it's not finished as i've got some further changes yet to come which i'd sort tomorrow if i could but at least it's in full working order and although i've yet to test ride it properly the quick trip round the garden felt real good except for the moment i nearly came off it due to the exceptionally keen brakes   as for pics and the parts list well that will come tomorrow " finally " :) ..

Thank you for your praise as it is very much appreciated mate ;) and yes with just a little bit of time tinkering with the saddle position and a couple of small trips just to get me and the bike settled in as i've not ridden on a trail for quite a while now so i'm really looking forward to getting out there but just want to make sure everything is as it should be :) ..

Well this is how she stands atm and although she is initially completed i haven't finished fully as i need to gain a bit more room in the cockpit area as it's feeling a little cramped and i've already moved the saddle back as far as i can without putting it under any unwanted stress so any help or suggestions would be hugely appreciated and excuse the pics as i struggled to get the camera to agree with the daylight   .

I've been on a hours ride today and have made further adjustment to the gears as they were sticking when dropping from 5th but great on the upshift , found overall though the bike is a little gem with quick pedal response and twitchy steering and i can't believe how comfy and light it is though so to say i'm pleased with it is a huge understatement   ..

C & C's welcome ;) .

Re: 09 RockRider 5.2 rescue n revamp ! .

A very tidy job!

I'd twist the bars round - the curve is meant to give some sweep backwards not downwards. Standing on the right I reckon they need a turn of almost 90 degrees clockwise. Your wrists will thank you.

If you are still feeling cramped, then check saddle height - an outstretched leg's heel should be about 1" or so below the pedal with the crank in line with your leg. Also, the bars are pretty high compared to the saddle. I would try flipping the stem the other way up.

Thanks Hamster ,

Yes the bars aren't quite right but i'm not to concernd about it as i'm waiting on posty bringing me some slightly wider one's and as for the handlebar stem i totally agree they would be better the other way and will be doing that very shortly so the bars will get sorted aswell .

I've altered the saddle height since the pics were taken and it feels much much better than before so once the bars and stem are done it will feel a lot more comfortable and i'll be altering the crankset to just the 42 tooth single as i'll be using my bike mainly for trails so the forks will be changed for straight rigids too ..

Just a wee update as i've now altered handlebar stem and handlebars plus changed and modyfied the crankset for better chain positioning .

Re: 09 RockRider 5.2 rescue n revamp ! .( Updated .)

Very nice! You could unleash a massive  weight saving by shortening the brake cable outers a fair bit. The front one in particular would sit a little happier with about 10cm less outer. It's unusual to run left-front right-rear in the UK.

You can tuck the excess inner of the brakes behind the pip on the brake arm which holds the spring for a neater appearance.
