Sorry guys for cross-posting but I thought my original post might not be seen buried in a Saracen ebay-spot!

The old frame I'm building up is a Saracen, I think, as it has a carbon effect chainstay protector saying 'Saracen', however the rest of the frame was painted matt black except for a Tange sticker which is the only clue I might have as to which version of Saracen it was. It said 'Tange 5056 butted chrome moly custom main tubes' (or words to that effect - re-printing it from memory!). It's 20" BB->Seatpost. It weighs in at 2.99kg.

Anybody know what it might have been? (Attached are photos of it in its grey primer before I go for the new livery).

I think I agree, seeing other frames at the 1.8kg mark!! Oh well, should make a good pub-crawl bike!

Saracen frame!

Actually on inspection of your photos of the primered up frame, it seems your top & down tube are roughly the same diameter. The down tube on the frame i have is oversized, roughly twice the dia. of the top tube.

I couldnt check your photo links at work (photobucket is blocked) so sorry you may still be lost on your frame ID.
...damnit this was meant to be a pm response to Orange71...doh!

Looks like a Claude Butler/Radford special from Action Bikes (I sold hundreds of them BITD), the seat bolt arrangement is what made me think that with the road style bolt thing, and the fact that it weighs a ton, and its massive (the only came in 18", 20" and 22" right up to the late 90s - who was riding a 22" then, except freaks?)

Oh, and the Claude Butler/Radford came in two colours, matt black and beige with stickers that were not laquered over so could be easily removed.

A Saracen Rufftrax has just appeared on fleabay in Tange 5056. Has the same seatpost pinchbolt arrangement.
