I'm with you Taffy. Old rubber is usually dangerous if you start to ride it hard. A good new amberwall is hard to beat.

never been a fan of the smoke, a great tyre when its really moody but probably the worst drag ever created by a tyre in the dry

Not a fan of the Smoke either. Had a set of original smoke Lites on one of my bikes and only needed a few hundred feet to decide that it was rubbish. In the end I went with Mombat's Duro Comp III amberwalls. £140-ish after shipping and taxes, but they are great. Noisy as hell on the road though.

Considering getting the Ritchey Z-max amberwalls for the modern though.
