1997 Giant ATX 970 -- Done -- ( 3/9/2014 ) -- !!

Picked this bike up yesterday as it looked like a fun project to work on. Its going to be a work in progress but it doesnt need much. Looks like it was a pretty decent FS bike for its time. Aluminum frame, originally had all STX group with a Judy and a RST-22 coil in the rear. This bike had been ridden hard I wish I would have taken before pics because the paint has cleaned up very nicely. I plan to rebuild the Judy XL on the bike and eventually replace the RST-22 rear with probably a FOX or similar air shock. It also came with a tubeless Bontrager wheelset, some XT Vbrakes ( stole those for my Univega ), and a really worn out LX crank. Here are some pics of how it sits right now. Check back often for more updates...

Registering for updates. Always liked these

I am looking forward to getting it built up so I can ride it, thats what will determine if I keep it or not. I plan to put some LX/XT bits on the frame because its nice enough to warrant an upgrade from the STX group it had from Giant. I really like the Judy XL fork on it, I like how you can change the geometry of the headtube by moving the stanchions up or down within the dual crowns.

Alrighty finally getting around to building this bike. Literally this bike has been built with whatever parts have been on hand. I did not want to run the Judy XL's they were shot....so for now I have a Judy XC with the red springs from the XL inside. I also went with an older LX crank, have a M737 XT rear for it, a newer XT front, Club Roost stem, XT Vbrakes, Bontrager wheelset, Tigoa Psycho tires, I have a Selle Italia Laser saddle for it as well. This bike has cost me a grand total of ZERO dollars thus far as the frame was free and all the parts have come from my box-O-parts. Here is an update pic. Almost done now.....

DO NOT RIDE THE BIKE WITH THAT FORK SETUP

that's one of the two crowns from the Judy XL's

it will not be strong enough. It'll flex like all jesus and probably break, followed by your face shortly after.

Good eye you are right. I wasn't planning on riding it this way, I have a hydra air sid that's going on it but it's still on another of my bikes. Yea that crown wouldn't hold up! Just doing this for mockup purposes

before anyone says anything about the Judy XL crown....yes I know Im not riding the bike this way. I am going to be putting on a SID this is just for mocking up the front end of the bike. I spent less than 50 dollars on this bike. Most everything you see on it was out of the parts bin. I only had to purchase some cables, a chain, and brake levers. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Thanks man, I appreciate that. I am looking forward to riding it. It turned out a lot nicer than I thought it was going to. It took me 6 months though, I had so many other things going on.
