1937 SCHWINN EXCELSIOR X - NICKEL PLATED - GARY FISHER CLONE

Re: 1937 SCHWINN EXCELSIOR X - GARY FISHER CLONE

Awesome project! Although I wouldn't have stripped the bike you got, that looks cool too :)

too late..

-Frame stripped, rear stays widened for exceltoo hub, brazing around seat tube and stay brace repaired...(Will be metal finished before plating)
-Plater produced nickel plate sample for me with two options. I went somewhere in between the two...matte finish..but to too matte!

Dont worry all the bikes parts will find good homes elsewhere!

Re: 1937 SCHWINN EXCELSIOR X - GARY FISHER CLONE

I found the correct hubs:

Front: 1955 Union drum from Schwinn Town and country (Good Chrome but the the Powder will be refinished)
Rear: Exceltoo Drum

See reference photos..definitely a match!

A couple rare ones of the actual bike..

Note bike had changes spec a few times over the years..
Base on the frames hanging from the ceiling I would say the BW shots are early 90s..

sneak peek...Note identical shifters, grips, stem, headset and real Honda CB77 levers..(Not reproductions).

I really should tilt the bar down but I am a giant and want to ride it... :D

He he. This could go one of two ways - Mr Fisher will either consider you a Legend or a Stalker .

In all seriousness, I think you're doing well to re-create something this old with so much accuracy, so keep it coming .

Regards

Re: 1937 SCHWINN EXCELSIOR X - NICKEL PLATED - GARY FISHER C

Seeing this bike, I wonder how we ended up with the straight bars we use now. I mean, 12 degree bend is nothing compared to the bar on this bike.

looking good.
could you tell me how you went about widening the rear stays?
i might have to do that on my clunker project too.
