Colnago Master Olympic MTB

Sheffield

Do you reckon this is a worthwhile project? It was a full bike with Exage, Biopace etc, but think it needs a smattering of Campag.

Rust has attacked the chainstays in the two places pictured (god knows what a shotblast would unearth...). Can it be fixed easily?

If it is a worthy project, should I stick with the colour (even though it's a little naff)?

I think that stay is definitely going to need replacing - whether it's economically viable I'm not too sure.

I certainly wouldn't ride it in its current condition. :(

it is pretty darn cool.

If you had to say...spend $150 to fix it...it might be worth it.

Otherwise...it may need put down.

Too far gone on the rear end I feel. Stick it on ebay and walk away, save your time and money for something you really desire.

Would love to get it back to its former glory. It cost me £30 as a full bike with Exage Mountain. The guy had been riding it in the condition you see.

So when they repair something like this, do they replace the whole stay or just fit a length metal over the effected stay? I'm sure I have seen that done in the past.

Tempted to take it down to the shop to get the options. Not sure I want the same colour scheme, but on the flipside I can't afford a full on Colnago paint job. Maybe just all black with some white splats, I'm sure I've seen that before. Any suggestions?

Now for the next part....

I have an '87 Beast of the East (SM800) with Campag kit on it. Swap for the Exage and put the Campag on the Colnago. Will sell the 'Dale after this I think.

I'd shot blast it (about £30) and then you'll know for sure. Looking at the pics it does not look good. The tubes look very thin and fragile. Remember your gonna want to ride this bike and it needs to last when finished.

Could break your heart this one Sheffield. :(
