My suggestion for the next MacRetro Road Ride

Sorry if I have offended you velo, but I am slow compared to what I used to be although I am working on it   I used to be able to average 23mph when I was in my 30s but sadly I can't get anywhere near that now, in fact if I manage 23mph downhill nowadays it's a massive achievement ;)

Arran was an easy ride, (weather was a challenge) yes there were a couple of steep climbs but nothing that really took the wind out of my sails, the Bealach is a different beast and may prove too much for me but I just think this would give myself and some of the guys something to aim for and help focus their winter training schedule.

I cycled the Lord of the Lochs in September, 111.8 miles with 9388 feet of elevation and even though I never broke any records I never found it too much of a challenge. I was out and about the next day feeling perfectly fine taking my granddaughter up the top of Aonach Mòr

Nobody needs take up the offer, I don't mind tackling this challenge on my own but it would be a great ride to share with others.

I must admit to having a longstanding hankering to do an Audax event! Ever since I read about them I was hooked, something I'd really like to do when I get a bit more free time.

Mmm, that looks interesting. Had a quick look at the map and elevations and I feel tired already. :)

The ultimate euro audax is or has got to be the Paris-Brest-Paris. I know a fella thats done it, he was a distance junky. Met him on a 60 mile warm down run on a Sunday in east lothian a few years back. He was warming down from Saturdays run from Edinburgh to Shap summit and back in a day, roughly 250 miles
used to meet up with some of Edinburghs Audax folk on my regular CTC runs BITD, seriously fit with usually high end Audax bikes either Reynolds high end steel or Titanium.
You could not keep pace with those guys, awsome fitness.
Personally the 100Km Brevets are about as much as I'd ever try but that can become addictive aparently much like 10K run specialists as you just want to fill your Brevet card with as many as you can
