Lacing 28H rim to 32H hub?

Quite possible, but not elegant. Easier if you have a selection of spokes to use, as slight variation in length is required. Not recommended.
You would lose 2 hub holes on each side.
I have done nearly symetrical ones in the past, 24 on a 36, and 32 on a 48.
Some of you will know I built 1000's of wheels in the 1960s.

Where in the Cotswolds are you Keith? ( I'm N Cotswolds ) Perhaps you could re-lace this? It's built up at the moment on a bike of mine ( came that way ) so just need it to be safe, if it's risky, I'll find a 32H rim to match the front.

disaster!
Even if you manage it, the spokes will have varying tensions and each spoke adjustment will be compensating for another mismatch error. I would expect premature spoke breakages, so not a reliable wheel, esp as its a rear.
heap big effort for a poor result

Why would you want to do a bodge in the first place!

It came like that on a 90s bike I purchased and was ridden for years without failing, I am querying whether there is a better lacing pattern; if not,or if there are safety issues I'll replace the rim.
