well it's together, barring any tweaks that may be required.

Took it for a short test ride round town this morning, down a few steps and off a couple of drop-offs

That is sweet. Love the bombers and blue ano too

I did wonder if it would be too much blue, what with the blue frame and all, but it actually works ok.

Re: Major Winter Overhaul Multi-Project

Love this bike, I had a fire mountain which was almost identical !

Cheers, I've now sorted the front mech issues, it was the BB, fitted a 107mm as recommended by Fluffychicken and others and it seems to be good.

Ironically i'm now having a crisis....

Gruff is selling his U'hu frame, which is a build I have admired a lot and I'm contemplating buying it. The logical thing (to me a least) would be to basically swap the Cinder Cone frame out and insert the U'Hu in it's place.

This way I'd have one of each:

94 Kilauea Rigid
96 Kilauea hardtail
97 U'Hu Full Suspension

ARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH

What to do???!!!???

Re: Major Winter Overhaul Multi-Project

Temptation got the better of me

I've done a deal with Gruff to swap the Orange Frame & Forks for the U'hu frame he had for sale.

This means that the only complete bike I currently have will in about 2 weeks be torn down again!

Plan H....

1 x 94 Kilauea fitted with threaded TB P2's and spec is to be finalised, some XT, but will feature Purple!

1 x 96 Kilauea fitted with some sort of suspension fork. I was going to fit some SIDs but they unfortunately turned out to be knackered! so back to the drawing board for now... I have got the Bomber Z2's but I was going to try and go fairly lightweight with this build as most of the Groupo is XTR M950.

1 x 97 U'hu fitted with Bomber Z1's and the kit off the Cinder Cone.

So come the end of this (if I don't change plan again) I'll actually have changed the entire fleet!

Re: Major Winter Overhaul Multi-Project

I went for it....

The other weekend I swapped the Orange frame & forks for the Kona U'Hu frame with Cane Creek Air shock.

So I'm now stripping the Cinder Cone frame, and cleaning all the bits ready to build up the U'Hu.

I've also acquired a few more bits towards the other builds also:
Some nice Aerozine chainrings for the '96
and
Some lovely purple bits for the '94. I seem to recall purple being all the rage around then

I did take the set of NOS Pulstar hubs down to SJS to get a set of wheels built, but the cost of the straight pull spokes blew it out the water! Will have to consider alternative hubs for the '94 now.... I do have a decent set of M737's but I'm also eyeing up some M900's that I've seen...

Some pics will follow when I start to rebuild something...

Re: Major Winter Overhaul Multi-Project

Pics as promised

Firstly thanks Gruff for the lovely frame....

And I've now added the UN55 BB, the Cane Creek S2 Aheadset that came with the Cinder cone frame, the Z1 Bombers and the front M739 V's and the no name ubiquitous late 90's alloy stem:

Being the Weight weenie geek I am I thought I'd weigh the bare frames just out of interest....
(All frame weights include the seat clamp and dog collar if fitted and the BB cable guide)
94 19" Kilauea = 2058g = 4.53lb
96 18" Kilauea = 1965g = 4.33lb
97 19" Cinder cone = 2137g = 4.71lb
97 19" U'Hu = 2931g = 6.46lb (inc shock)

Hmm the U'hu aint gonna be a lightweight is it?
