Am I getting excited over this drawing unnecessarily?

…..ok, I need to get out more but hopefully some of you will find this interesting. :?

I downloaded the Suntour Dealer Catalogue (1987) months ago to use as a check sheet for my Cannondale build but it wasn’t until recently that I finally noticed some interesting possibilities…

I’m pretty sure they never went into production as 1987 was a big year for Accushift but has anyone ever seen a CL-XC00 combination brake/shifter? Going by the dealer catalogue it’s a CB-6200 brake lever fitted with a “power control” thumbshifter of some sort. The shifter in the drawing looks closer to a LD-4700 than a LD-3600 and in the photo of the ‘87 XC900 line-up it looks like LD-4700 but the cable stop isn’t the same as the bar mounted shifter. I really like the idea of seeing if I could make a CL-XC00 as it was my intention to use LD-3600’s for the Cannondale in the first place plus the uncluttered look on the bar is a real bonus.

I’ve mocked some up using blue tack; what do you think?

I've definitely been looking at these pictures too long… by 1988 (when your brake/shifter was available) Suntour only offered Accushift i.e. the "Power Shifters" had been discontinued.

Interestingly  the page below is from the 1988 catalogue and the picture of the XC9000 groupset is the same as the one they'd used in 1987 but the drawings at the bottom show the CL-XC01 brake/shifter and the BL-XC00 brake lever (I guess they couldn’t afford a new picture?). These are quite different from the CL-XC10 & CL-XC00, so I'm guessing they were only available in 1987; which makes them rare (especially the CL-XC00 version)?

I think I've cracked it. Anyone recognise these shifters as they look exactly the same as the ones being used on the CL-XC00 & CL-XS00's?

How cool, often wondered about my Suntour brake/combo shifters. I have a scruffy set of CLXC10 ones that I use on my daily commuter, great shifters and comfy 4 finger brakes. Also got enough bits to make them look like your other two mock ups. I have them on an 87 Emmelle Dolamite so its nice to know they're period correct.

Those newer shifters look SunRace to me.

Thanks, I was wondering if anyone else had found this interesting! The new shifters (which I'm pretty sure are right) are definitely Suntour; just don't know the model number.

They do look low end though, just a step up from the fully plastic ones shimano knock out. This is in no way a bad thing as these types of shifter are usually very simple and reliable.
Good Luck

Looking at the underside of them they look like they have a Power Control mechanism inside, so maybe not so low end.

Cool, I am constantly amazed at your ability to find this stuff...most of it seems NOS too. So the key question for me is...are your 5000 thumbie bodies for sale then ? :D :D

I agree.
Im sitting with a mint set of either the ld 3600 or ld4700 (I think theyre tthe latter but have no idea to the part number placement) which are pretty robust looking with a nice clamp and mount in comparison. :?
