I was aged 12 and being the summertime I was in the garden climbing a tree and managed to fall head first from the top of the tree - I ended up giving myself concussion and breaking my left wrist (at this point I didn't know it was broken it just hurt a lot!!)
I got put to bed by my parents and woke up the next morning with my wrist swollen to twice its normal size - I was given painkillers and told to rest it. This would have been fine apart from my friends coming round to see if I was coming out on my bike - I obviously couldn't say no so decided to ignore my parents advice.
All was going well (apart from my wrist causing me agony!) until we went to the local country park. (up to this point I couldn't use my left hand to use the back brake but it had been ok as we were just ambling along)
The country park had a massive grassy hill which we all started riding down - I tried to slow down but ended up going over the bars and knocking myself out and sliding down the rest of the hill on my face.
Cue ambulance ride to hospital and a very annoyed pair of parents getting the third degree from medical staff.
End result was wrist in plaster for 6 weeks, double concussion and the whole left side of my face covered in a huge scab!!!!!!
If only I'd listened to my parents
