Modern chainset/bb onto older frames

Hi. I wish to upgrade my 2001 Cannondale with a modern compact chainset. I am a bit out of touch with all the new b/b types & integrated axle chainsets etc.

What will or won't fit the std b/b shell of my CAAD4? Theres lots of FSA & Shimano stuff that looks ideal for what I want. Also as another concern, will my existing fr mech be ok on a compact? (9sp Ultegra double)

Anything with the standard 24 turn per inch English Thread will fit most bike frames excluding some older french and italian roadbikes.
If the frames BB shell is 68mm then any BB that width should fit. Many of the external cup BB's are designed to fit 73mm wide BB shells with spacers to fit 68mm BB shells. Only DH bikes, Fatbikes and some cruisers are likely to have BB shells wider than 68/73mm 24TPI English thread.

Guessing its a road bike (ultegra front mech).
Any BS/english threaded road bottom bracket will fit. Just pick a chainset to fit.
I recently got a 105 Compact chainset (10 speed) and bottom bracket from one of the german shops, €89 IIRC (on sale) worked fine with my old 9 speed D-A mech.
Pretty sure that 9 and 10 speed chainring spacing is near enough the same to work with no bodges. (The frame is near enough 15 years old too......)

IIRC anything below 105 has solid cranks, and will weigh LOADS.

Won't go far wrong with something like this.......

The one's to avoid are the BB30 and other press fit style bottom brackets, as they just won't fit.
