Hi, I have a set of mavic 121dh ceramic rims built
On to stxrc hubs with a 7 speed cassette. Does anyone
No weather I could put an 8 speed cassette on instead? And if I have to change the hub would it still fit in my frame?
Any help would be great
Cheers

nope, 8 speed cassette won't fit, freehub is too short.

3 options,

remove freehub body, fit an 8speed version, respace hub to the correct 8 speed spacing then re-dish the rim so it's then central as by swapping the freehub body the rim position will be off centre in the frame after the respacing.

remove hub, buy 8/9 speed hub and rebuild into the rim

sell wheel(s) and buy an 8/9 speed set

;)

p.s i'm not deliberately following you around the forum

Thanks for that, I think I will keep out 7 speed and stick with sti shifters and cantilever brakes unless I can find some decent 7 speed shifters???

One alternative is to run an '8 from 9' setup. If you take a 9 speed cassette (low or midrange, not one with the fancy sprocket carrier) you can discard the largest cog and spacer and it will fit. Use 9 speed shifters, chian etc and away you go!
