To lube or not to lube....

They don't need to be lubed. Some do like some light oil in there, but it's not required, and can actually add drag. This may be a religious sort of topic for some.... :)

Incidentally whats the best to spray onto spds after a clean to keep them working smoothly and keep corrosion at bay?

Like minded questions there, Cheers..

Same page lads,I used to use it but is GT85 a bit too thin?Is there anything that will completely cover and protect the mechanism,a good grease spray?

one of the finish line lubes or a dry graphite one.
gt85 is very thin and needs constant applying, it stays wet so therefore dirt sticks to it making it counter productive (think grinding paste)
wd40 for some reason has a reputation as a lubricant, its for getting water out of things hence the name (wd stands for water displacement. the 40 was the 40th go at getting it right)
a solvent based 'dry' lubricant is best as it is easy to apply and evaporates leaving a dry protective film over the part. the key to successful lubrication is to clean all the crap out first, drive whatever you cleaned it with out after, then lube, spraying anything onto a dirty something just turns it into a grindy something.
here endeth the lesson.
ps, I just use gt85 regular and a rag. :)
