Taking these XT skewers apart...

Is there a way to split down these skewers?

I would like to change the front lever, with one of the printed rears, to kinda make a matching set.

anyone know...

On the inside there is a tiny circlip that you can prise out with a small flat bladed precision screwdriver.

It's a fiddly job so beer and swearing is in order.

EDIT: Just realised they are newer than the ones I've done which have a full steel handle, so they may be assembled differently.

cheers for the info,

sadly too big a task for me to take on...

anyone got a set of Syncros skewers for sale ... :D

Don't cut and re-thread, it will not work. The threads on those are rolled from solid rod. The threads, IIRC, are M5/.8 but the diameter of the of the rod is M4.5'ish. The threads are wider than the rod itself even though they are rolled from it. So if you cut off the ends, the nuts would slide freely upon the skewer.

I cut some QR's once but I was making my own end nuts at a machine shop and could size it appropriate but if you cut them, you've ruined them. Linky on rolled vs. cut threads: http://www.portlandbolt.com/faqs/rolled ... ads-bolts/
