Stumpjumper 1994

Dirt Disciple
Here is my Specialized Stumpjumper from 1994. The bike is 100% original (I think) except for the Onza bar ends and it is very well taken care of.

I remember drooling over this bike in the catalogue back in 1994 and now I have it almost as new, really happy :)

Does anyone know how to clean the grips or should I try to find some replacements instead?

Thats a great looking bike :D i love that colour it just works soooo well with the groupset and the umma gumma .
I remember many happy hours looking at these and the s works steel too , they look really understated and classy .

Very nice!

For the grips, perhaps a bit of lovin' with some Isopropanol (Rubbing Alcohol) will sort them out. Shouldn't harm them at any rate (as it is the solvent in the hair spray so many use to mount grips).

Great bike :D

Regarding the grips: perhaps you're able to take them off the bar. If so, put them in bath (water with a little bit of soap). Keep them soaked for some days... They will clean up just looking at them (at least, mine did...)

Good luck and enjoy your rides

Cheers,
Will

Congratulations, it's in great condition. Your last photo looks like it could be the cover of a Specialized catalogue.

Thank you for the comments. I'll try your different suggestions for the grips.

Thanks. I would love to have Specialized to shoot their next catalogue in my "backyard" in Denmark :D

As to the grips, take em off, and soak them in a bowl with a mild solution of Milton in (yes, the baby bottle cleaner thing).

Let them dry out, and they should be clean as, and germ free!

Lovely bike. A mate of mine had one BITD in white with red decals ( a year or two earlier than yours I think) - I was always very jealous of it, steel is definitely real :).
