Deciphering Klein S/N

I have a 1990 XL 22" with embossed headset seal.
I read the frame serial number as BAT40A6. The '6' at the end looks like it is not stamped, but done by hand and may be a 'b' marking relating to the head tube boring method? An earlier post in this thread mentions they had head tube bore dimension issues on some earlier frames? This frame also has the seat tube decal from the batch with the USA flag in mirror image.
I think the original owner bought it new in the UK with full dark grey campag Centaur build. The original fork cracked but I still have it and will try and retrieve the serial number.

But what do you think when you find #1212.
Is it the 1212th Klein frame welded or only the 1212th attitude ?
