Any reason why fitting 130 mm forks to a 19999 Gary Fisher genesis geometry frame would be a bad idea?

I am not sure what travel this frame hardtail was designed for but back then forkd were typicslly 80 or 100 mm

Would looking at frame angles tell me?

Ah ok. There I was thinking it would ride like a hippopotamus on a skateboard, just goes to show how wrong I was.

Care to explain in simple terms - never really bothered to try to undetstand frame geometry and sngles.

130mm forks on a frame designed for 80 might be a step too far. It will have slow and sluggish steering and a poor climber. The steering could be sharpened up a bit by fitting a shorter stem, and further bodgery could turn it into something rideable, but why bother? 26" frames are cheap and plentiful, or you could shorten the fork travel to something sensible. What forks are they?
