Well I bought a rather tatty 97 Lava Dome frame off Kona tone earlier this year to have a play with and turn into a retromod to ride rather than look at , having spent a bit of time here and a bit there it's starting to look something like (purists avert your eyes) and I've finally got it into it's initial coat of primer so it's time for a few pics .

Looks interesting. What's the build plan? I see the disc mount but is that a canti hanger (but no rim brake mounts)?

I dragged an Orange C16R kicking and screaming into the 21st century a few years ago with disc mounts and singlespeed conversion. Loved it in its original guise but it rode like a dream once modified and was a blast in the Welsh mud with no cables to worry about.

Left the canti stop on as it's fitted into 2 holes in the rear stays (I'd have had to plug them some way so decided it was easier to leave well alone !), yes it's going disc at both ends , most of the parts I've got from various past deals but it'll be running F32's on the front (haven't decided wether to leave then at 100 or reduce to 80/90 yet), Elixir rsl front and rear , 3X9 (X9 shifters and rear mech , slx or xt front mech) and tubeless modern rims/tyres , need to get a SLX or XT external BB crankset and hope bb yet but got to get round to selling the middleburn RS2/3 setup in the box first. Getting there slowly but got to decide on a colour next (probably a 50's Standard pastelish green as I have some ).

Well it's now rideable , coat of some 50's green paint I had lying around , dig out the pile of mismatched retro and modern parts , bung it all together , get some stickers on it an hey presto , currently on flats for the wife (it's her bike too) but when I take it out it'll be on time clipless .
Spec for those that are interested .
97 battered lava dome frame from Konatone (thanks), bit of braze to fill the dents, straighten the rear hanger and braze on a home made rear disc tab, painted Triumph Standard pale green (1957 colour).
Fox f100 forks.
DT swiss front and rear wheels which shim hubs
Avid Elixir RSL brakes
Sram X9 rear mech
Specialised grips
All the above off a 2009 Stumpjumper
X9 Shifters
LX front mech
XT cassette
KMC chain
Bars and stem sourced on here
Middleburn RS2 crankset
Old spesh BG saddle
Like it or hate it doesn't really bother me as I'm going to enjoy riding it :D

That frame's had an interesting life, canti stop on a '97 frame..been through a few guises in it's time..
Are those Simex Extreme Trekkers in the background, or one of the various copies that look similar? What do you bolt them onto? Best jungle tyre there is, superb traction, had some on my CJ7.

If you look at the catalogue archive you'll see the canti hanger on the 97 LD, yes they are proper Simex's and they sit under my 90 for challenge events .
