stupid question!! freehub or cassette?

Well there's always plenty to learn or it would get boring :)

Does the freewheel have two slots opposite each other in the centre of the freewheel? That is the most common Maillard freewheel and you need a 2 pronged tool to removed it. If you're only going to do it once its probably not worth buying the tool. If you have a friendly local bike shop they may remove for you FOC :)

does this link work?

:) yes the link works. Forget the post above you have a splined freewheel which needs the Malliard splined tool.

nice and expensive for a one off job!!! I don't suppose there are any newer freewheels same size! visit kev at the local bike shiop I think!

5.99 better but doesn't look like it would fit although stated for the job. the sockets look like they would need sharper teeth.

ha ha it said it was but looking at the freewheel and the tool and didn't look right. kev is the cheaper option. I just pm'd you to tap further into your extensive knowledge after looking at you many restorations you may be able to identify for me!
