Quill stem

you might be quicker using a ahead/quill adapter. I doubt that there was much as short as 80mm in the MTB world from that era.
 
I've got this one laying around. It could be yours for the postage ...

It's a quill stem for an 1 inch fork. 90 mm. 30 deg rise. Used. It was mounted on a 1989 Giant Escaper.

Thanks, but I'm trying not to go down that route. All the ones that I have seen have a chamfered edge at the bottom and don't look right.
