I'm a fan of cantis too, set 'em up right and they work well and they also look right.
These for instance are works of art:

Well when I find that Trek carbon/alu frame painted purple - they made them I will have purple Dia compe 987 and SS7 canti and levers on it. They are so nice.

I had a Torus frame and built it up including SS7 levers with 987 cantis,hand on heart you could keep yer cnc high end exotica,that DiaCompe set up was just spot on.I dont think anyone came close to matching their performance and reliability.

986, Ritchey or Shimano, all I've ever used. 95% Shimano even in the 80's.
