What would you do?

I bought a front derailleur on ebay, in "good used condition", but sent it back because of really sloppy pivots. The derailleur wasn't expensive but it was the principle that mattered. If you buy a part in good faith and it turns out to be in such a condition as to render it useless, or in your case, even worse, potentially dangerous, then it's best to send it back and claim a refund. You'll probably have to take a hit on the return postage though.
