Specialized Shark Fin re-manufacture ?

Bellow pics suggest a proprietary mounting boss that screws into the old brake boss hole. It makes sense that they would have incorporated the female spherical cutout in the ali forged body.

As an alternative, two pairs of spherical seat washers (one above and one bellow the bracket) could be used; this would work with the slotted hole! Only drawback is the £6 delivery takes the price for the pair to over £10 (obviously not such a big deal if someone makes a bunch of brackets up and spreads the cost).

Looks like all the pieces of the puzzle are in? :)

not so fast.....................
where did you get these pics from

the pics are too small and don't show me the details i want
some bits are OK, like the holes in the washers
tell me that it fits over the spanner flats on the bolt, 10mm
looks like a ground off a pivot bolt used
no bodies gunn'a pay 10f's for washers
if any bodies gunn'a make this they can make the washers too

but.....

i know there are FSR'ers out there that have one of these
and a lot of silent watchers of this forum
it would be helpfull for us, for them to post some high res pics

here is a bit ov'a better pic
this went on ebay last week 48f's
shows the elongated mount, hard mounted to the frame
thats what we want no mouvement.
missalignment should not be a problem, but i want too see that mount close up

another ebay job

can just see the slot under the washer

Sorry, I wasn't being pushy; I don't even own a Specialized!

I've looked but can't find the search terms I used to find those pictures, but the way I see that custom mount boss working:
- Original brake boss is removed
- New boss is screwed in (M8?)
- Larger diameter hole washer goes underneath
- Then forged mount (the custom boss sits sub-flush)
- M6 caphead goes through top washer to secure everything in position.

well...... no probs bro, you'd have to have pretty long arms
i'm not in the UK
why am i not surprised you hav'nt got an FSR.....??? LOL

to be honest i'm not really taking sugestions on how to design this
i only want hard data and this is the best place so far, to get it.
apart from engineering data.
other forums looked to be making progress, but went nowhere
there was one guy who 3D printed a steel mount like the A2Z

aluminium printing is not yet happening, NASA ???? maybe
but for us, not happening

and i'm doing it as a favor for all the FSR'ers who like me will never, endup geting one of these FINs because Specialized never made enough of them to go around.
i could have just made one for myself.......

but i'll keep hoping to get those final pics
with the bolt and washer removed from the pivot mount

looks like preoflex is giving up and selling his FSR
i guess that means you won't be making a FIN

i'm due to build up my fsr soon (in a separate place to where i live at the mo).
can you send me a list of exactly what you need (pictures, dimensions, anything and everything else you need).
i should get access to it before the end of september - if i have a list from you, i can make sure i get what you need when im next with it.
cant give an exact date when i can get this info to you, but i will get it to you before end of september - currently in Hong Kong, so its def a no go right now :p

THANX A BUNDLE twain

i've got most of the data i need
would like some pics of the pivot bolt end of the fin
with washers and bolts removed
and the weight would be nice to know too

and that will do it

i'll keep an eye out in the FSR forum for pics of your build

I've got an a2z disc adaptor which is now surplus to requirements.

Came off my '98 ground control and was barely used..I'm open to offers if your interested?

Anybody out there got access to a 3D scanner...?
I have a brand new complete sharkfin still in its packet.
(and NO I'm not selling it!).... unless someone can sell me a cheap Risse back end!
I could be persuaded to digitize the profile and some dimensions so you can all go and get your own water or laser cut..
there'll still be a bit of gentle bending, a spot of welding and shimming too though.
that would enable it to be made from flat sheet stock.
However a 3D scanner (with a spot of CAD work) would probably mean you can machine the entire thing from billet.

I'm also a signwriter and decal maker (23 years practice) ... with a mint FSR MaxBack Pro so if there's enough interest I
might also be persuaded to copy some decals too.

looks like twain has run away........

ivan
as far as i know no 3D scanner here
got to remember as far as i'm aware there r no big manufacturers
on the forum
and your a luky basted to have a fin & a pro

about this persuasion business, what r we talk'n
could you be persuaded to take a couple of pics of the fin
and post them

i'm mostly done with my design and i'm do'in it 4 free
as i said, for a favor to all my fellow FSR'ers

so all this hitech shit is a no go
simple as posible is always the best way so anybody can do it

everybody seems to think they can get one CNC'd out of a solid lump of alloy, "what a waste of metal" not mention CNC time $$$$$$
and it go's no where
2 halves of a hot press die would be a much better option 1 off machine time, many off fins
thats what i'm think'n
as well as casting, and welding plate or angle is the easyest
go back over the forum it's all there

unless somebody wants to give it to the chinese @ 5$/hr shop time

try the "show us your FSR" forum for the decals you will definitly get some takers there
